What is ICNA-Houston?

In response to the growing need for the Muslim community living in one of the largest metropolis of USA to interact with the larger society and make positive contributions, the Islamic Circle of North America Houston (ICNA-Houston) has been established.

ICNA-Houston membership reflects diversity as persons from various communities are its members.

ICNA-Houston has several programs and projects, some of the salient ones include:

i) Human Services – Not everyone in the society can take care of their basic daily needs, due to various reasons. ICNA-Houston recognizes this and has been working actively on various humanitarian projects. Idea is to fulfill the immediate basic human needs and provide social services to the undeserved. ICNA-Houston operates under the principle that all people are created equal, and when given the right tools, will thrive and bring communities. We promote justice by creating the opportunities for the less fortunate to lead healthy and productive lives. Some of the projects include the Family Support Services, Women Shelter / Temporary Housing, Hunger Prevention Program through weekly serving of food to the homeless & Block Bar-BQ events, Food Pantry, and so on;

ii) Societal Outreach Program – Houston Region is a place, where people from more than 80 countries live and ICNA-Houston believes in strong interaction of these diversified people to make this place more affable and prosperous. ICNA-Houston has several projects, like booths at malls & flea-markets, billboards, printed literature, events where diverse people can come together to intermingle, etc.

iii) Youth Programs – ICNA-Houston recognizes that future of our communities and society rest with the Youth of present. Today we see in the society that Youth are addicted to drugs, but want to stop; many struggling with their parents, but want to set things right; etc. ICNA-Houston for community youth have the Young Muslims (YM) Platform for both boys & girls to arrange and organize positive learning & recreational activities for the youth, and help them & their parents with counseling if needed.

iv) Learning Programs – ICNA-Houston wants each day of its members to be better than the day they have lived. One way of achieving such excellence and improvement is learning on daily and/or regular basis. For this purpose, ICNA-Houston organizes several programs (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and even yearly conference), so that its members are well versed in their behavior as the citizen of this society, and excel in their professions and personal lives. Some of the major learning programs are called “Neighbornets”, “AL-Ma-Arif”, and “Islamic Learning Foundation One-Day Seminars & Weekly Courses”.
