Ibn al-Haytham was a pioneering scholar of mechanics, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and physics, born in Basra in 965 during the golden age of Muslim civilization. He wrote around 25 works on mathematical sciences and 44 works on physics, metaphysics, meteorology, and psychology. His most famous book, Kitāb fī al-Manāẓir, dealt with the experimental and mathematical study of light and contained correct models of vision, laws of reflection, and detailed investigations of refraction. Translated into Latin, his Book of Optics significantly influenced scientists during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Enlightenment. Ibn al-Haytham is considered the founder of psychophysics and experimental psychology, and his contributions to optics and visual perception earned him the nickname "the father of modern optics." He died in Cairo in 1040 after dedicating his life to mathematics, physics, and other sciences. ... See MoreSee Less
