As a Volunteer Tutor for ICNA Houston Unit (ICNA-Houston), I agree to the following:

    1 General Expectations.

1.2 Professionalism. I understand that my relationship to the students is professional not personal therefore I will not establish inappropriate relationships with students, and I will not exploit professional relationships with students or parents, for personal gain or private advantage by offering private tutorials for money, by referring to private third-party tutoring services or by other means unless approved by ICNA-Houston.

1.3 Commitment. I will be punctual for all tutorial sessions and I will give my undivided attention to the students.

1.4 Flexibility. I may have to be flexible to changes that occur to the schedule that are outside ICNA-Houston’s control. Further, I may have to teach more than one student in a session as determined by ICNA-Houston.

1.5 Dress Code. My dress affects interactions and relationships with tutees therefore I shall always dress in an appropriate and professional manner during a session.

Further, I will not comment negatively to students on their instructor’s grading policies, teaching strategies or personalities.

1.7 Respect. I will respect cultural and individual differences, including those based on age, sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status. I will show respect for my student’s personal values and I will not impose my personal values or lifestyle upon students.

1.8 Concerns. I will work to resolve conflicts that may arise, and I will share any concerns that I have with my supervisor in writing.

2.4 Cyberbullying. I understand that incidents of cyberbullying are not confidential and such incidents must be reported to the supervisor to gauge their potential impact on a tutee’s learning environment.

3 Termination. I understand that the Tutee or ICNA-Houston may terminate the tutor-tutee relationship at any time for any reason. I will respect Tutee’s or ICNA Houston’s right to terminate the relationship.

Ibn al-Haytham was a pioneering scholar of mechanics, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and physics, born in Basra in 965 during the golden age of Muslim civilization. He wrote around 25 works on mathematical sciences and 44 works on physics, metaphysics, meteorology, and psychology. His most famous book, Kitāb fī al-Manāẓir, dealt with the experimental and mathematical study of light and contained correct models of vision, laws of reflection, and detailed investigations of refraction. Translated into Latin, his Book of Optics significantly influenced scientists during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Enlightenment. Ibn al-Haytham is considered the founder of psychophysics and experimental psychology, and his contributions to optics and visual perception earned him the nickname "the father of modern optics." He died in Cairo in 1040 after dedicating his life to mathematics, physics, and other sciences. ... See MoreSee Less
